In his first appearance on Blue Note after relinquishing the name The Jazz Messengers to Art Blakey, Horace Silver hit it out of the park with this first-rate hard bop set that featured his indelible composition “Señor Blues.” The pianist was accompanied by a top-notch quintet featuring Donald Byrd on trumpet, Hank Mobley on tenor sax, Doug Watkins on bass and Louis Hayes on drums.
