Description
Henry Grimes (b), Perry Robinson (cl), Tom Price (d) Henry Grimes, in his early years bass player with Benny Goodman and Gerry Mulligan, among others, soon turned to the free jazz scene in the 60s, played with Cecil Tayler, Albert Ayler etc.. He made his first (and to this day only) recording as a leader with ESP in 1965. It’s good that this CD is being re-released, especially since Grimes sold his bass in 1968 and disappeared from the world of music until 2003. His late comeback after 35 years was a minor sensation. What an imaginative and technically skilled bassist he was even then is documented here. Henry Grimes passed away on April 17, 2020 as a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
