“Evolution” is the debut album by American trombonist Grachan Moncur III. Moncur’s band features alto saxophonist Jackie McLean, trumpeter Lee Morgan, vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, bassist Bob Cranshaw and drummer Tony Williams. The Penguin Guide to Jazz describes the album as “a refreshing and intellectually stimulating set,” commenting, “The entire record has a dark, mysterious quality that the deeper trombone sound … strongly accentuates.”
